An “elegant” solution

Light therapy box

Make it stand out

Since I was in graduate school, I’ve been using a light box to address Seasonal Affective Disorder. My light of choice is the BoxELite Desk Lamp from Northern Light Technologies. It was not cheap, but I have yet to have to replace the bulb and it has moved with me over a dozen times over the past few years, including a few trips via mail across the country. In other words, it’s a beast, but it’s great!

Make it stand out

My only complaint is that it is difficult to stay in one place for the full 30 minutes you really need to benefit from the light box. The other issue is the angle — I have to keep the EBox up really high so that the light strikes the top of my eyeball.

I recently came across a solution, albeit an ugly one. :) (The Metz family specializes in ugly solutions!) It’s called the Luminette 3. You just wear these glasses which are connected to an app on your phone. As nerdy as they look, they are the perfect solution for getting your 30 minutes of light therapy in the morning if sitting in the same place is not an option.
